Table Talk 13: No sex please, I've got cancer..?

Sex was integral to the start of this story. If you ever get a chance to have a beer with C she'd love to give you the details of 'How she found her lump' (complete with actions). But would that be the end of it? Would our young relationship take a very different direction when it came to sex because of the treatment? How would complex and sensitive things like desire be affected by the process? Or if we wanted to keep things playful could we find a way to make sex part of the treatment programme?

Note - we didn't find enough information out there about sex and cancer. So if you're searching around for tips you may find it useful to know that vaginal fluid can be affected by chemotherapy for up to 72 hours so it's best to keep things safe using condoms, gloves or dental dams for the first few days after each treatment. Also, remember that one body is undergoing a lot of change so talk a lot and 'discover sex with chemo' rather than expect it to be just the same as always.
